Backend Engineer

Pelago is a virtual clinic for Substance Use Management, focused on personalized treatment plans for tobacco, alcohol, and opioid use. They are experiencing rapid growth and are seeking a Backend Engineer to build and scale their systems, focusing on serverless architecture, APIs, and data management. The ideal candidate will contribute to a secure and scalable experience for members and enhance the company's mission.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer.
• Extensive experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Proven track record with event-driven architectures.
• Years of working with SQL, including schema design, optimization, and scaling.
• Strong AWS expertise (API Gateway, SNS, SQS, Lambda, Cognito, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, VPC).
• Experience integrating and managing third-party APIs in production environments.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and experience writing unit and integration tests.
• Comfortable working in an agile, collaborative environment.
• Based in London or within commuting distance (2 days/week in-office).
