Substation Technician-B is a non-exempt position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of substation equipment and systems. The role requires work in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and occasional travel to other states. The technician will work independently or with others, occasionally working long hours during emergency conditions.
Requirements
- 4-6 year continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring
- Commercial Drivers' License
- Ability to perform rigorous physical labor
- Ability to climb and work at heights up to 125 feet above ground
- Ability to work in confined spaces/areas
- Ability to interpret substation structural drawings
- Ability to accurately appraise technical situations
- Ability to coach subordinates on the crew
- Ability to develop and interpret a material list
- Ability to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three-line diagrams
- Ability to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations
- Ability to perform routine carpentry work on building wood concrete forms
