We are looking for a Data Architect to help design and evolve the data architecture that powers Elsevier’s next-generation publishing and peer-review platforms. This role will involve defining the core data architecture for the submissions domain, designing API-based and event-driven data flows, and guiding engineering teams in implementing robust, scalable data solutions.
Requirements
- Strong experience in data architecture and domain modelling
- Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles
- Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
- Experience designing multi-tenant data architectures
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or cloud-native databases
- Data Platforms & Integration: Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake or data lakes, designing ETL / ELT pipelines, experience with event-driven architectures, API design experience (REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI)
- Modern Architecture: Microservices architecture, event streaming and messaging platforms, distributed systems design
- Collaboration & Leadership: Experience working closely with software engineering teams, ability to guide technical implementation and reduce architectural complexity, experience modernizing legacy systems into scalable architectures, understanding of data governance, lineage, and data ownership practices
