We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Substation Relay Technician to support the safe and reliable operation of substations and distribution equipment. This technician installs, maintains, calibrates, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical systems within a substation environment.
Requirements
- Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment in substations.
- Perform functional testing on control circuits for relay panels, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- Develop and execute relay macros and testing routines to verify protection scheme integrity.
- Conduct end-to-end relay testing using relay test software; analyze performance based on fault types.
- Develop written standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures.
- Review relay settings and logic equations to ensure alignment with system protection designs.
- Create, review, and execute substation equipment isolation and restoration switching procedures.
- Lead safety briefings and maintain a strong safety culture on job sites.
- Investigate electrical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Interpret protection and control schematic and wiring diagrams to identify errors or inconsistencies.
- Use manufacturer documentation to support relay testing and maintenance tasks.
- Assist with other duties as assigned, including electric system construction and maintenance.
