The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) seeks a Curator of Global Sikh Art and Culture to lead the programming and presentation of Sikh art and culture through galleries, exhibitions, and other initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to build and interpret ROM's Sikh art and culture collection, and will work collaboratively with local communities, artists, and scholars to achieve this goal.
Requirements
- Advanced educational attainment in South Asian art history, visual culture, material culture, anthropology, history or a closely related field
- A strong record focusing on the Sikh arts and heritage through curatorial, academic, and/or community activities
- An ability to read and write Gurmukhi
- Competency with a modern South Asian language, preferably Punjabi
- Embodied connection to the Sikh/Punjabi community and a demonstrated knowledge and sensitivity to contemporary histories, issues, and concerns of the community
- A strong background in a museum environment, knowledge of peer institutions, and experience developing and implementing programs and exhibitions
- Experience with provenance issues and track record of working successfully with community partners to establish institutional trust and repair relationships
