Responsible for supporting the Manager in ensuring that biomedical design specifications and performance requirements are carried out in accordance with SSMC and local authority safety and management standards, policies and procedures, statutory and contractual requirements.
Requirements
- Conducts research by publishing research findings or investigating literature
- Performs biomedical investigations in support of medical risk management as related to potential hazards and incidents involving medical equipment and accessories to medical devices
- Interprets technical data and specifications to assist in the procurement of new equipment purchases, and provides guidance as it relates to the maintenance of medical and scientific instrumentation based on biomedical application, manufacturer guidelines, national code, the standard of care, and customer requirements
- Provides feedback to assist in the planning of new facility modifications as they relate to medical equipment and accessories used in new or modified biomedical care areas
- Provides guidelines on the most suitable equipment, in relation to the existing environment and facility requirements
- Oversees and supports all engineering drawings of medical equipment and ensures accuracy of details such as electrical circuits, control programs, civil and mechanical aspects and all related components
- Ensures the specifications of each item of equipment and availability of spare parts (both on and off site) in case of breakdown
- Ensures market availability of spare parts or replacements for equipment that are no longer under warranty
- Assists in the preparation of SSMC’s annual physical asset management and maintenance plan
- Monitors the external environment for best practices in the management and maintenance of biomedical equipment
- Prepares technical requirements and conducts technical evaluation to acquire and select new medical technology
- Assists and conducts necessary site tests, and records, analyses and interprets test data, proposing modifications and retesting equipment as necessary
