The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board invites well-qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant General Legal Counsel. This position is based out of our Chicago office and advises our Operations Counsel/Ethics Officer on the course of action on diverse legal issues confronting the Board from outside law enforcement agencies as well as compliance with State laws and the Illinois Police Training Act.
Requirements
- Serves as Assistant General Legal Counsel for ILETSB.
- Provides advice to Chief Legal Counsel and other legal staff in the administration and implementation of policies concerning the processing of legal inquiries, subpoenas, documents, records, and regulations to ensure that staff handles and processes documents within legal restraints and confidentiality requirements.
- Researches, consults with, and offers advice to agency human resources and management staff, and other necessary State agencies relative to the legal aspects of personnel matters.
- Drafts legislation, resolutions, administrative rules, and amendments pertaining to law enforcement and corrections officers, Board funding or other law enforcement related issues in collaboration with the Chief Legal Counsel and other legal staff.
- Conducts and directs confidential investigations pertaining to the decertification of law enforcement officers, including those convicted of a felony/misdemeanor.
- Tracks and reviews newly proposed legislation affecting the Police Training Act.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
