Job Description
The New York Times is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the development of their data and machine learning infrastructure. This role focuses on building scalable systems to enable data-driven products, analytics, and AI applications, working closely with product, data science, and platform teams. Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on distributed systems, data platforms, and ML infrastructure
- Proven ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams and mentor senior/staff engineers
- Expertise in data processing frameworks (Spark, Flink, Iceberg), orchestration tools (Airflow, Kubeflow), and cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP).
- Strong programming skills in Python and compilation languages (Java, Go)
- Experience designing systems with scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency
