The Open University is seeking a Welsh Development Tutor to lead the process of ensuring adequate and appropriate support to students speaking Welsh when studying for the BA (Honours) Social Work (Wales) degree. The successful candidate will promote and develop the use of Welsh in the Social Work programme, provide advice and support to students, and contribute to the department's academic life and developing their own academic profile.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in Welsh and English
- Ability to promote the Social Work programme to individuals, groups and corporate clients in Welsh and English
- Clear ability to promote and develop the use of Welsh in the Social Work programme at the Open University in Wales
- First-class degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant field and professional qualification in Social Work
- Experience and understanding of professional social work practice and practice learning in Wales
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies for social work practice, and current issues in social work in Wales, and an understanding of them
- Ability to contribute to the department's academic profile and the Social Work team's profile in Wales, in line with the department's research and scholarship priorities
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a process of continuing update in the field of social work
- Ability to work in teams, and the ability to complete relevant tasks independently, including remote working
- Ability to build and develop effective working relationships with external organisations, including other Higher Education Institutions and Social Care Wales
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, and the ability to prioritise a varied workload
- Clear ability to support staff development and promote a bilingual learning environment
- Ability to write clearly and to meet deadlines, in Welsh and English
- Ability to perform the role in a way that is consistent with equality and diversity policies and procedures
- Ability to use communication and administrative technology for communication and administrative purposes
- Flexibility and ability to travel across Wales and to Milton Keynes, and to work with the evening and weekends
- Ability to teach and support students respectfully and with a sense of dignity in line with the University's policies
