The Research Ethics Review Associate facilitates whether research study proposals submitted to the UBC Okanagan Behavioural Research Ethics Board (BREB) are acceptable on ethical grounds by implementing and monitoring ethical review processes and standards.
Requirements
- Advises researchers on Canadian federal and provincial regulatory requirements and the TCPS2 requirements for conducting human research as well as specific UBC REB policies, standards and requirements.
- Ensures consistency of REB policies and decision-making processes when reviewing applications and providing guidance to researchers / faculty.
- Advises and provides instruction and training to researchers and research staff on how to use and navigate the web-based system
- Advises researchers regarding how to complete the application form on the on-line system
- Reviews and approves new Post Approval Activities (PAAs) that fit into the REB SOPs for staff review.
- Monitors notices of Annual Renewal of Ethical approval required for active and closed research projects and follows up when required, including tracking and timely follow up of lapses of ethics approvals, to ensure institutional compliance with national regulatory requirements.
- Monitors studies that are in a provisos-pending state and follows-up with researchers as required.
