The University of Miami's department of Facilities is seeking a Director, Space Planning to oversee the renovation and improvement of facilities by coordinating the development of new buildings and negotiating professional service contracts and leases. The Director will maximize space in a way that meets institutional needs and objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Facilities Management, or related field required
- Minimum 7 years in space planning, facilities planning, or capital planning within a complex healthcare, higher education, or research environment
- Knowledge of business and management principles
- Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations
- Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan
- Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others
- Commitment to the University's core values
- Strong understanding of healthcare operations, medical education, and research space requirements
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in space utilization analysis and planning methodologies
- Proficiency in space management software ability to maintain a space inventory and utilization metrics
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex governance and stakeholder environments
- Strategic thinker with a collaborative, customer-focused approach
- Experience with long-range facilities strategy, not just isolated project work
- Strong knowledge of applicable building codes, life safety, ADA, and FGI guidelines
