Job Description
Upwork is seeking a Contract Senior Database Automation Engineer to design, operate, and automate their database systems (Postgres, MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB) across global infrastructure. The role involves orchestrating systems, optimizing performance, and participating in on-call rotations. This engagement through Upwork’s Hybrid Workforce Solutions team supports the success of Upwork’s business and the work of their global team.
Requirements
- Hybrid expertise: Deep experience in both database engineering/administration and software development.
- Strong background in Python (required); ability to develop robust automation beyond basic scripting.
- 7+ years of professional experience with relational databases, with a strong preference for Postgres.
- Solid understanding of SQL; experience with procedural languages (PL/pgSQL for Postgres or PL/SQL for Oracle) is beneficial but not essential.
- Experience with Terraform and related infrastructure-as-code tools is a plus.
