The Senior Mechanical Reliability Advisor plays a key leadership technical role to ensure that VIA Rail's new rolling stock fleets are designed for long-term maintainability, reliability, and operational performance. The role involves working closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure design decisions support safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance. Key responsibilities include technical support, governance and collaboration, and performance monitoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in reliability engineering or maintenance
- Practical experience in workshop and maintenance environments
- Experience in design, design reviews, and production phases
- Knowledge of materials, tolerances, treatments, fixation systems, mechanisms, constraints, vibrations, and heat transfer
- Ability to design or recommend special tools, lifting devices, adapters, or templates to improve maintenance or safety
- Mastery of reliability analysis tools and methodologies
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical data
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical reports and interacting with internal teams and external parties
- Mastery of reporting and programming tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, Python)
- Solid project management and resource management, prioritization, and scheduling skills
