Medical Director- Hospice

The Medical Director of VITAS fulfills two primary functions: medical direction of the care and treatment of patients and their families, and education of practicing physicians and others on the hospice program and its potential benefits.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medical care
• Knowledge of palliative care and symptom management
• Ability to work collaboratively with patients' attending physicians and hospice employees and volunteers
• Membership in good standing on the medical staff of an accredited hospital
• Medical malpractice and liability insurance
• Positive recommendation from corporate medical officer
• License to practice medicine in the state
• Board certification in a medical specialty dealing with care of the terminally ill
