Performs structural engineering work relating to the design of new and existing structures, coordinates with architects, contractors, and clients, manages projects independently, and supervises junior engineers.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues
- Detailed understanding of seismic design procedures, ductility, and mechanics of different building materials
- Basic knowledge of linear and non-linear finite element analysis and performance-based design
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Knowledge with process and concepts for sustainability and reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas
- Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts effectively and professionally to engineering and non-engineering audiences
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- A member of and/or actively participating in local professional practice organizations
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., ETABS, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, SAP, Perform3D, spSlab, spColumn, VisualAnalysis, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
