Cabin Leader

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the foundation of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Cabin Leader/Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision, guidance, leadership, health and safety of a group of campers.

Requirements

• Supervise a group of campers as an exceptional role model for youth
• Plan, develop, and implement program as assigned by Program Director or Camp Director
• Assist in camp-wide activities
• Facilitate campers' involvement in camp programs
• Facilitate friendships and friendship building skills among campers
• Create written responses as requested in camper development and program evaluation
• Create group and individual goals for each member of the group of campers
• Help individual campers adjust to group life by means of effective democratic group process
• Participate in staff meetings and regular supervisory conferences
• Be familiar with emergency procedures
• Be with assigned groups at all times and constantly monitor all assigned campers unless relieved by appropriate staff person
• Assist specialists in their programming as assigned
• Carry out other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Director or Camp Director to assure the overall success of the program
