Lead Backend Engineer

At Zego, we're looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to help shape the future of our platforms and services. As a technical leader, you'll drive delivery, influence architecture, and mentor others to deliver user and business value.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience with hands-on experience building cloud-native microservices (Python preferred, but open to strong experience in other languages)
• Deep knowledge of programming fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Experience building systems at scale and understanding distributed architectures, performance tuning, and observability
• Leadership experience, including mentoring, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset
• Tenacious and resourceful, with a calm, pragmatic mindset and ability to find solutions that balance speed, simplicity, and scalability
• Proactive, with a willingness to raise concerns early, engage stakeholders, and help the team align on a path forward
• Ability to engage stakeholders beyond engineering and explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Understanding of trade-offs and ability to apply judgment to choose the right approach for the problem
• Excitement about shaping a product that impacts thousands of drivers daily
• Curiosity about how AI can enhance work and willingness to experiment, learn quickly, and apply tools that improve productivity, streamline tasks, or unlock new ways of thinking
