Aptus Treatment Centre delivers holistic, person-centered quality services to people who have intellectual disabilities, their families, and the community. The Direct Support Professional will work independently and collaboratively with teams to coordinate supports and resources with people receiving services.
Requirements
- Relevant Degree, Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
- Valid G2/G Driver’s License in Ontario and demonstrated acceptable driving record
- Direct support experience in a community based setting is preferred
- General understanding of disability issues, resources and legislation relevant to supporting people with an intellectual disability
- Strong listening, observation and communication skills
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and creative problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong ability to cope with stressful situations
- Strong planning, organizing and time management skills
- Self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated collaborative approaches to providing quality services
- Knowledge of alternative communication strategies and techniques
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, email, access the Internet)
- Ability to maintain regular attendance at work
- Certified in First Aid, CPR
- CPI training is an asset
- Willingness to participate in mandatory training, orientation and annual reviews as required by legislation
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check dated within the last 3 months
- MUST be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
