Adult Day Services - FT Direct Support Professional

Aptus Treatment Centre delivers holistic, person-centered quality services to people who have intellectual disabilities, their families, and the community. As a Direct Support Professional, you will work independently and collaboratively with teams to coordinate supports and resources with people receiving services.

Requirements

• Relevant Degree, Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
• Valid G2/G Driver's License in Ontario and demonstrated acceptable driving record
• Direct support experience in a community based setting (preferred)
• General understanding of disability issues, resources and legislation relevant to supporting people with an intellectual disability
• Strong listening, observation and communication skills
• Demonstrated resourcefulness and creative problem solving skills
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Ability to cope with stressful situations
• Strong planning, organizing and time management skills
• Self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated collaborative approaches to providing quality services
• Knowledge of alternative communication strategies and techniques (e.g. sign language) (asset)
• Ability to speak fluent English and demonstrate effective written communication skills in English
• Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, email, access the Internet)
• Ability to maintain regular attendance at work
• Certified in First Aid, CPR
• CPI training (asset)
• Willingness to participate in mandatory training, orientation and annual reviews as required by legislation
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check dated within the last 3 months
• Qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
