Aptus Treatment Centre delivers holistic, person-centered quality services to people who have intellectual disabilities, their families, and the community. As a Direct Support Professional, you will work independently and collaboratively with teams to coordinate supports and resources with people receiving services.
Requirements
- Relevant Degree, Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience
- Valid G2/G Driver's License in Ontario and demonstrated acceptable driving record
- Direct support experience in a community based setting (preferred)
- General understanding of disability issues, resources and legislation relevant to supporting people with an intellectual disability
- Strong listening, observation and communication skills
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and creative problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Ability to cope with stressful situations
- Strong planning, organizing and time management skills
- Self-motivated, ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated collaborative approaches to providing quality services
- Knowledge of alternative communication strategies and techniques (e.g. sign language) (asset)
- Ability to speak fluent English and demonstrate effective written communication skills in English
- Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, email, access the Internet)
- Ability to maintain regular attendance at work
- Certified in First Aid, CPR
- CPI training (asset)
- Willingness to participate in mandatory training, orientation and annual reviews as required by legislation
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check dated within the last 3 months
- Qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
