Principal AI Systems Engineer

We are seeking a Principal AI Systems Engineer to join our team at Atari. The successful candidate will be responsible for architecting, building, and owning AI systems that automate expert-intensive technical workflows end-to-end, including system architecture, pipeline development, prompt engineering, context engineering, evaluation, and governance. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building production AI automation systems, hands-on expertise with AI coding agents, and experience designing and deploying MCP servers and custom tools.

Requirements

• Proven track record of building production AI automation systems from scratch
• Hands-on expertise with AI coding agents — Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, or equivalent
• Experience designing, building, and deploying MCP servers and custom tools from scratch
• Experience creating internal tooling and automation that measurably improved engineering team efficiency
• Experience defining and tracking productivity and efficiency metrics for AI systems
• Experience working with data scientists and domain experts to implement AI solutions
• Deep prompt engineering and context engineering practice
• Proficiency with LLM orchestration frameworks — LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, or equivalent
• Experience building internal CLI frameworks, agent scaffolding, and reusable libraries
• Production Python engineering: modular, testable, well-logged code with proper error handling
• Experience integrating AI systems with external tools and APIs
• Experience building AI evaluation frameworks
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP): deploying and monitoring AI workloads with containerisation and orchestration tooling
