This full-time Recovery Mentor position is gender responsive, serving male identifying participants. The recovery mentor will support participants who have substance abuse and mental health disorders, who are currently involved in the Criminal Justice system. Working in close partnership with Probation and Parole Officers and community partners, the Recovery Mentor acts as a peer role model and documents the progress for each participant.
Requirements
- Certified in an Oregon State Mental Health and Addictions approved training as a Mental Health and Addiction Peer Support Specialist within 90 days of hire
- 2 years clean/sober with a verifiable program of recovery
- Free from supervision in any state
- Personal vehicle, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Bridges to Change’s auto liability policy requirements
- Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness
- Experience in collaborating with community partners to identify shortcomings in the organization and in building partnerships to improve outcomes
- Lived experience related to population being served, past probation experience, preferred
- Experience setting and maintaining clear boundaries with the ability to hold others accountable with compassion
- Excellent communication, trauma informed approach and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with crisis prevention, intervention and response
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and ability to manage high risk population effectively
- Ability to maintain high professional standards at all times with participant, staff, and community partners
- Computer literate; functional ability with Microsoft programs
- GED/High School Diploma, preferred
