Principal Metallurgist - Technology

Carpenter Technology Corporation is a leading producer and distributor of premium specialty alloys. The Principal Metallurgist - Technology role provides technical services to internal and external customers and supports the attainment of Company and division goals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science or related field
• 8 or more years relevant experience
• Advanced knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods and practices
• Advanced knowledge of metallurgical and production equipment
• Demonstrated knowledge of the newest and latest technologies available
• Functional knowledge of statistics, six sigma and/or BPI practices
• Ability to travel
• Ability to access mill and manufacturing areas
• Demonstrates ability to assist others in the use of statistical methods and provide support to others for experimental design
• Ability to provide training and education to key customers
• Ability to provide support, leadership and guidance to peers, customers and manager in key projects and opportunities
• Ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a timely and effective manner
• Ability to be self-directed
• Ability to serve as a mentor to internal resources as requested
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to initiate and lead and participate in project teams as appropriate
• Ability to reliably and consistently deliver results on schedule
• Ability to use SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to search for and eliminate waste
• Ability to recognize, measure and communicate technical risk and recommend actions
• Demonstrate ability to predict future needs for alloy development
• Ability to identify potential new products, processes and partners
