Job Description
The Peer Support Spec 2 provides peer support services to clients with serious and persistent mental illness in the criminal justice system. The role involves providing recovery education, empowerment skills, and self-advocacy skills to clients, as well as assisting them in developing recovery plans and navigating community resources. The Peer Support Spec 2 will work with the FACT team and provide peer mentoring and support to consumers, model self-advocacy skills, and provide information, referral, and non-clinical skills training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience working on recovery and able to manage own wellness
- Must be fully certified as a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) and/or Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS) through the Texas Certification Board
- Ability to speak before groups and in community settings
- At least one year of lived experience with mental illness and/or substance use
- Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes
