The Custom Upholsterer is responsible for the manufacture, upholstery, and inventory of all cushion projects in the shop as well as custom leather and fabric upholstery work as required.
Requirements
- Cuts and assembles all foam and cardboard cushion parts according to shop designs
- Sorts leather hides for different uses according to shop-developed standards of quality and acceptability
- Sew pieces of fabric and leather together with industrial sewing machine
- Stretches and staples pieces of fabric and leather onto cushion bodies
- Maintains all fabrics, leather, notions and equipment in an organized manner
- Sprays finishes and adhesives on cushions and cushion components with HVLP spray gun
- Read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and plans to ensure accurate execution of designs.
- Choose appropriate wood materials, veneers, and hardware for each project, considering durability, aesthetics, and budget constraints.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and tools to keep them in optimal working condition.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including the safe operation of machines tools and equipment, and report any safety issues or concerns.
