Distribution Designer

Role Overview

We are designing the grid of the future! Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is seeking an experienced Distribution Designer / Engineer to support CenterPoint Energy’s overhead distribution system improvement projects across the Houston area. This temporary position will focus on reconductoring, overhead line relocations, and related field design activities, combining both field data collection and office-based design work.

What You Will Do

Perform field design and data collection for overhead distribution projects, including reconductoring, relocations, and new line extensions. Use DDS to create and update detailed design models that comply with CenterPoint Energy’s design standards. Conduct on-site pole audits and field verification using IKE devices or IKE Office, recording pole measurements, attachments, clearances, and environmental details.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in electric distribution design
• Demonstrated proficiency with DDS (Distribution Design Studio)
• Familiarity with CenterPoint Energy design and construction standards
• Strong understanding of NESC requirements and overhead line design principles
• Ability to read and interpret as-built drawings, GIS maps, and field survey data
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Valid Texas driver’s license and willingness to perform field work throughout the Houston region
