The PET/CT Technologist prepares and administers high energy short acting radioisotopes to patients in preparation for diagnostic procedures. The technologist prepares and positions patients for scanning and operates PET scanner, Dose calibrators, radiation detectors, and radiopharmaceutical tracking software.
Requirements
- Exhibits working knowledge of the Positron emission tomography (PET) scanner, dose calibrator, radiation detector, radiopharmaceutical tracking software, and PET procedures.
- Performs ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the interpreting Radiologist.
- Administers high energy short acting radioisotopes, using advanced ALARA concepts, and following NRC and state policies and guidelines.
- Reviews/explains the procedure and safety precautions to the patient to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Always demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and patient;
- Maintains a clean and neat work environment, keeping areas stocked at all times.
- Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots problems.
- Maintains technical competency through continued education as required by accrediting and licensing bodies.
