The Camp Lakota Chef is responsible for preparing and serving meals for campers and staff in the camp kitchen setting, ensuring meals are nutritious, delicious, and accommodate dietary needs while maintaining food safety standards.
Requirements
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers during programs/events to meet the intended outcomes.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with participants through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
- Assure participants are always properly supervised.
- Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
- Participate in the development and implementation of program activities within the mission and outcomes.
- Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
- Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
- Act as a lead in programming areas such as archery, rock wall climbing, challenge course, and all camp activities, when needed.
- Be a role model to participants and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Set a good example to participants and others regarding general operational procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
- Prepare and cook nutritious, high-quality meals for campers and staff in accordance with camp menus, dietary guidelines, and food safety standards
- Support kitchen operations on an as-needed basis, including coverage during staff absences, special events, or peak camp periods
- Accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies (including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-safe meals) with care and accuracy
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with local health regulations and camp policies
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and temperature control procedures at all times
- Collaborate with the Food Service Director and camp leadership to ensure smooth meal service and positive camper experience
- Assist with meal planning, food prep, and inventory management as assigned
- Supervise and/or work alongside kitchen assistants or volunteers when needed
- Model professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude consistent with camp values
- Support special meals, theme days, or camp events as requested
- Other duties as assigned.
