Prepares and stains microscopic tissue slides from surgical and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination by pathologist to render diagnosis. Has some indirect supervision of processors working in laboratory.
Requirements
- Certification as a Histotechnican by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification with the ASCP (HT) or ASCPi (HT) credential is preferred.
- Graduate of an associate or higher degree Histotechnican program is preferred
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science preferred
- Previous experience working as a histotechnician is preferred but not required
- High school diploma required
