The General Project Superintendent is responsible for the overall field execution of a highway construction project, overseeing daily construction operations, coordinating subcontractors and crews, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Direct and supervise all on-site construction activities for highway works
- Plan, coordinate, and sequence construction operations to meet project schedules and milestones
- Provide leadership and direction to superintendents, foremen, and field crews
- Ensure proper staffing, equipment, and materials are available for daily operations
- Enforce all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures
- Lead site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections
- Ensure compliance with OSHA / local safety regulations and project-specific safety requirements
- Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and implement corrective actions
- Ensure construction activities comply with contract documents, specifications, and approved drawings
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality assurance activities
- Identify and correct quality deficiencies and rework issues promptly
- Coordinate daily activities with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for client representatives and regulatory agencies
- Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates and field reports
- Resolve construction conflicts, delays, and technical issues in the field
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term work plans
- Monitor production rates and labor productivity
- Identify potential schedule risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Coordinate traffic control and phasing plans to minimize disruptions
- Assist with cost control by managing labor, equipment, and materials efficiently
- Review and approve field timecards, equipment usage, and daily reports
- Support change management by identifying scope changes and documenting impacts
- Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, and safety records
- Support preparation of as-built documentation and project closeout activities
