The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with hospital and departmental policies. This role supports all phases of the laboratory workflow including pre analytic, analytic, and post analytic processes.
Requirements
- Performs only those moderate and high complexity tests authorized by the Laboratory Medical Director and appropriate to the individual’s education, training, experience, and technical abilities.
- Follows established procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
- Maintains documentation demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are handled and tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, calibrations, and instrument or procedural maintenance.
- Follows established policies and procedures whenever test systems fall outside acceptable performance limits.
- Identifies issues that may affect test performance or result reporting and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies the appropriate supervisor or the Laboratory Medical Director.
- Communicates effectively and appropriately, using sound judgment regarding what information to share, with whom, and in what manner.
- Works independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating good judgment and adherence to written and verbal instructions.
