The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. Mentors and assists less experienced staff members.
Requirements
- perform venipuncture and/or EKGs
- checking schedules and organizing patient flow
- accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
- assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing
- collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing
- preparing for exam
- taking vital signs
- relaying instructions to patients and or families
- answering calls and providing pertinent information
- sending and receiving patient medical records
- obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- completing forms and requisitions as needed
- managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately
- entering orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- preparing prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician
- inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies
- providing set-up of examination room and instruments
- maintaining logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart or others
- checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies
- maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
- complies with established personal protective equipment requirements
- assists in the maintenance of medical charts
- scheduling surgeries/procedures or working in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator
- performing proficient phlebotomy duties
- performing appointment scheduling and registration for patients
- updating patient demographic and insurance information
- maintaining, adjusting and confirming patient office schedule
- verifying & updating insurance information utilizing internal or web sources
- performing and verifying pre-certification for procedures
- provides training and mentoring to Level I MA staff
- directs and assigns MA schedules and work flow
- oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support
- performs other duties and tasks as required
