Medical Assistant I-Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health

The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. The role involves performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow, and assisting physicians with various procedures. The Medical Assistant I also fulfills clerical responsibilities such as sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions as needed.

Requirements

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned
• Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned
• Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician
• Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies
• Provides set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques
• Maintains logging system as required
• Checks expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies
• Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
• Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements
• Assists in the maintenance of medical charts
• May schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator
• May perform proficient phlebotomy duties
• May perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients
• May maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule
• May check and verify and update insurance information
• May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned
