The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.
Requirements
- Performing venipuncture and/or EKGs
- Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
- Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
- Assisting patients with walking, transferring and dressing
- Collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing
- Preparing for exam, etc.
- Entering orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Preparing prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician
- Inventorying, ordering or re-stocking medical supplies
- Providing set-up of examination room and instruments
- Maintaining logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, etc.
- Checking expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
- Complying with legal regulations
- Complying with established personal protective equipment requirements
- Assisting in the maintenance of medical charts
- Scheduling surgeries/procedures or working in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator
- Performing appointment scheduling and registration for patients
- Updating patient demographic and insurance information
- Maintaining, adjusting and confirming patient office schedule
- Checking and verifying and updating insurance information utilizing internal or web sources
- Performing and verifying pre-certification for procedures
- Performing other duties as assigned
