Perfusionist

Perfusionist responsible for setting up and operating heart-lung machine in hospital to take over patient's heart and lung functions during surgery or respiratory failure.

Requirements

• Reviews patient medical history and chart
• Consults with surgeon or physician
• Selects, assembles, and tests heart-lung machine
• Operates heart-lung machine to regulate blood circulation and composition
• Monitors and observes operation of heart-lung machine and patient's physiologic variables
• Cleans and adjusts parts of heart-lung machine
