The Opto-Mechanical Engineering Analyst will perform rigorous, multiphysical analysis on complex components and systems to support the development of effective and ruggedized high energy laser technologies. This role will require the utilization of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other engineering evaluation techniques to support the creation of manufacturing-friendly, cost-optimized solutions, that meet or exceed functional design goals.
Requirements
- Perform detailed analysis on opto-mechanical systems using finite element analysis, analytical approaches, and numeric methods.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists across disciplines to define requirements, constraints, and analysis goals.
- Work closely with engineering designers to translate CAD models into analyzable forms and iterate their designs towards more optimal solutions.
- Utilize project and configuration management tools to track and document assigned tasks.
- Commitment to Excellence. Attention to Detail. Pride in Workmanship.
- Expertise in Finite Element Analysis (COMSOL preferred; NASTRAN, ANSYS, ABAQUS or other FEA tool experience accepted).
- A capability to learn and demonstrate cross disciplinary Opto-Mechanical concepts and principles
- Experience with scripting languages for mathematical analysis (MATLAB preferred; Python, Mathematica, etc. accepted)
- Familiarity with Computer Aided Design principals (SolidWorks preferred; Creo, Catia, Onshape, etc. accepted).
- Exhibit a strong mathematics background with familiarity solving boundary value problems and performing numeric analysis.
- Displays a strong willingness to learn and mentor others as new and improved expertise is obtained.
- Experience in performing STOP (structural thermal optical performance) and/or SWAP (system weight and power) optimization of complex assemblies.
- Experience working in DOD related industries: Directed Energy, Aerospace, Naval, or Land Systems.
- Experience analyzing systems with computational fluid dynamics (thermal flow), mechanical dynamics (vibration/jitter) and/or controls theory (state-space implementations).
