The Electrical Specialist is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the support of maintenance, repair, and operation of NRG's generation fleet. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical theory, power plant design and maintenance, and the ability to work with complex testing equipment in and around medium and high voltage.
Requirements
- Ability to perform, or provide technical leadership during the performance of, testing and maintenance of protective electrical systems in electrical substations and power plants.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of test plans and procedures.
- Collaborate with corporate engineering, plant personnel, regional utility engineers, and contracted engineering firms in the design, implementation, and commissioning of complex electrical projects.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Provide technical support and training to junior technicians.
- Ability to read, interpret, create, and revise power plant drawings, schematics and diagrams
- Provide technical guidance, support and insight in multi-year outage forecasting, maintenance and upgrade prioritization, and budgetary development
- Willingness to provide around the clock emergency support, as needed, including video and teleconferencing, and emergency travel throughout the US.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory including experience with generators, switchgear, excitation equipment, protective relays, breakers and transformers.
- Knowledge and experience safely working with energized equipment up to 13.8kV
