The Police Sergeant, under direction, supervises officers and police personnel and enforces, prevents, and investigates violations of the law and University rules and regulations. The salary is commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Requirements
- Supervises assigned police officers and personnel
- Evaluates, counsels and advises subordinates
- Approves subordinate leave
- Examines and approves reports and case files submitted by subordinates
- May supervise a squad of security officers at special events
- May function as a police sergeant in any sergeant's position within the department
- Disseminates administrative directives and policies and ensures implementation
- Patrols campus and acts as a point of contact for other agencies
- Investigates offenses and arrests offenders of State Criminal Law and Transportation Code violations
- Prepares comprehensive reports
- Provides professional skills to in-service seminars and training of subordinate officers
- Manages crime scenes and evidence collection and processing
- Attends meetings with other departments on and off campus
- Performs administrative duties
- May serve as a member of committees, recruit officer review and officer promotion boards
- Testifies in Justice of the Peace Court as well as County and District Courts and student judicial hearings
- Interacts with the public by speaking on various topics dealing with law enforcement and community policing
- Performs other duties as assigned
