Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (“Shentel”) is seeking a Fiber Technician II to install, troubleshoot, and test fiber optic cables. The position involves working with specialized tools and test equipment to provide quality service to customers. The technician will maintain daily contact with dispatch and other departments, and assist with scheduling fiber splicing projects and coordinating fiber maintenance activity.
Requirements
- AS degree in a relevant engineering or technology field (desired)
- 5 or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry
- 3 or more years of experience with fiber construction and installation
- Ability to work aloft up to 50’ in a bucket truck, ladder, or climb utility poles
- Ability to work in confined spaces (manholes, vaults, etc.)
- Ability to distinguish between different colors
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather
- Ability to work independently and deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff
- Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds
- Valid driver’s license
