Under the guidance of the Patient Access Supervisors, the Patient Access Coordinator is the initial point of contact for patients entering the Health System for care. This role requires exceptional customer service skills and the ability to support patients with diverse cultural needs. The role supports multiple technical tasks to ensure patients are appropriately identified, registered, and scheduled for their care needs.
Requirements
- Function with ease in all areas of Patient Access Department
- Meet department standard of 98% accuracy rate when identifying, scheduling, and registering patients
- Collect 30% of eligible copayments
- Monitor and manage workflow as directed in the health system's EHR
- Display an understanding/sensitivity to each patient's unique cultural needs
- Demonstrate independence, proficiency, and accuracy with all scheduling and registration processes
- Coordinate bed placement activities
- Collaborate with Patient Flow Facilitators and Nursing Leadership to prioritize appropriate location of care
- Monitor bed occupancy within the hospital and maintain appropriate bed numbers based on nursing staff
- Act as a point of contact for attending physicians on all Pedi, Elective Pre-operative and Chemotheraphy patients needing admission to the hospital
- Coordinate and collaborate with Patient Flow Facilitator, ACC, Case Managers and ED Nursing Leadership to monitor patient flow barriers
- Monitor bed request
- Assemble necessary paperwork to include federal and state regulated documents
- Enforce physician suspension list
- Support patient arrival for care ensuring patient are identified, registered, and regulatory needs are met and maintained
- Manage death process
- Complete accurate Death Certificate Worksheet
- Notify State Medical Examiner for Emergency Department deaths
- Monitor and communicate with New England Organ Bank for release or donation
- Assure death certificate is completed accurately 100% of the time
- Chart review of all deaths for match of date and time of death and medical legal status
- Release to Funeral Directors per Mass General Laws
- Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices
- Function using department computer programs, including Internal/External websites
- Review, analyze, and act upon insurance eligibility system responses
- Manage own API (timecard) system
- Fosters a 'Culture of Safety' through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment
- Adheres to patient identification policies/procedures
- Understands individual roles/responsibilities during hospital codes
- Adheres to universal precautions and respiratory etiquette guidelines
- Demonstrates completion of NIMS 100 training
- Scheduling and registration role
- Effectively manages scheduling requests
- Accurately and independently schedules required appointment types
- Accurately schedules, cancels, reschedules, and manages waitlist for designated areas
- Works independently to complete daily assignments
- Completes with 98% accuracy all required registration items
