The Lactation Consultant is responsible for promoting and coordinating patient care and educational activities related to lactation, developing standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers, and providing outpatient consults for breastfeeding mothers.
Requirements
- Actively promotes breastfeeding and assists mothers in reaching their own goals for breastfeeding.
- Develops and implements standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers in all areas of the organization where they might be served.
- Provides outpatient consults for breastfeeding mothers at St. Luke’s Baby & Me Support Center.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates patient, family and staff breastfeeding education activities.
- Ensures all staff members are oriented to the infant feeding policy within 6 months of hire.
- Develops, implements, and maintains a reference library of breastfeeding materials.
