Requirements
- Prioritize incoming specimens and process patient specimens in accordance with department safety and OSHA guidelines
- Draw blood samples from patients based on physician orders and in accordance with departmental safety and OSHA guidelines
- Generate and attach labels to specimen/blood samples
- Ensure specimen integrity by verifying patient identification and ensures the sample submitted is appropriate given the requested test
- Accurately enter and review laboratory test data in the laboratory computer system
- Communicate with patients to explain procedures and/or answer routine questions from physicians, nurses, or other appropriate healthcare professionals
- Maintain a neat and clean work area and stock storage area with supplies and inventories as necessary
- Perform transportation duties, such as delivering specimens and reports
- Conduct routine inspection, maintenance, and quality control checks on equipment
- Prepare patients for and/or administer tolerance tests or other tests specific to assigned area
- Perform a variety of clerical duties, such as answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, maintaining records, or relaying a message to the appropriate personnel
- Self-monitor individual work behavior and performance to make improvements and communicate training and development needs to management
- Comply with departmental safety policies and procedures and OSHA guidelines, including the use of applicable personal protective equipment
- Check organizational communication daily
