Physician Assistant – Surgery

Physician Assistant – Surgery position in Dothan, Alabama with a large regional health system. The role includes operating room first assist, inpatient rounding, and preoperative/postoperative patient management. Surgical experience is required, with a strong background in General Surgery. The health system offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including advanced surgical care, trauma services, emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopedics, and women’s health.

Requirements

• Serve as first assist during general surgery procedures in the operating room
• Provide comprehensive preoperative and postoperative care, including hospital rounding
• Conduct patient evaluations, history and physicals, and perioperative assessments
• Manage surgical consults and coordinate care plans with the attending surgeon
• Perform bedside procedures as appropriate (e.g., wound care, drain removal, suturing, staple removal)
• Provide education and counseling to patients and families
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary care teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient safety efforts
