Braille Specialist

Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada (VLRC) is a national health services organization dedicated to empowering people who are blind or partially sighted to live safely and independently. We are seeking a Braille Specialist to teach uncontracted and contracted braille to individuals with vision loss in British Columbia.

Requirements

• Certification Contracted Braille
• Proficient in Unified English Braille (UEB)
• Minimum two years experience teaching braille
• Knowledgeable about relevant technology – electronic braille displays, portable devices and apps, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated decision making and professional judgement
• Resourceful, results orientated and flexible
• Excellent analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills
• Self-directed, organized, and excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team
• Proficient in using virtual platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field an asset
