This Specialist, Low Vision role at Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada (VLRC) involves providing client-centered rehabilitation, mobility training, and daily living skills programs to help clients build confidence and thrive. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of low vision rehabilitation, optical and non-optical aids, and visual skills, as well as excellent decision-making and professional judgment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other health care professionals, agencies, and stakeholders to provide essential care and support to individuals with vision loss.
Requirements
- Functional Low Vision Assessments
- Teaching individuals with partial sight how to maximize residual vision
- Recommending and training in the use of optical and non-optical aids
- Educating individuals about their eye condition and vision health
- Referring individuals to other internal and external services
- Handling public inquiries regarding vision health and low vision services
- Conducting research on new optical aids, adaptive equipment, and new findings in the eye care field
- Attending professional development training and conferences as required
- Delivering public speaking seminars and workshops on low vision services and related topics
- Interpreting medical information
- Performing administrative duties
