Job Description
Wilfrid Laurier University seeks a General Counsel to lead their legal portfolio, oversee complex and high-impact legal matters, and contribute to the long-term success of the university. The role requires a highly collegial, experienced, and strategic professional with a strong record of navigating complex legal matters within large, multi-constituent environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Juris Doctor (J.D.), or equivalent degree
- Licensed to practice in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- 8-10 years of progressive senior leadership experience in the legal services profession
- Deep expertise in employment, human rights, and labour law in unionized environments
- Ability to lead teams while maintaining an active legal practice
- Strong advocacy, dispute-resolution, and contract-negotiation skills
- Familiarity with commercial law and complex transactional matters
