The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a variety of settings, including group homes and community-based programs. The DSP is responsible for assisting individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, and upholding their personal rights.

- Ensure medication is administered as prescribed

- Support person-centered advocacy
- Assist in communication, self-expression, and resolving disputes
- Facilitate ethical decision making
- Provide supervision for and/or planning and preparing meals
- Transport and escort individuals
- Assist with making purchases and safeguarding personal allowance funds
- Develop an understanding of specialized clinical knowledge
- Implement Behavior Support Plan as written by Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS)
- Collect, record, and summarize data on individuals' observable behavior
- Observe and report any changes in behavior
- Serve as a member of a highly effective team
- Complete and maintain all necessary trainings and certifications
- Review communication logs daily and make entries of events, progress notes, services, and/or information
- Review and complete all other required paperwork and documentation
- Use foundational teaching skills and progressive teaching
- Understand behavior as communication and employ person-centered thinking
- Comply with all Federal, State, Local, and other relevant regulatory agency requirements
- Report maintenance, upkeep, and safety concerns observed at YAI facilities
- Consult with program leadership, clinical, and other direct support staff
- Utilize/demonstrate approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques
- Provide coverage for other direct support staff as requested
- Participate in the development of treatment plans
- Operate YAI motor vehicle to transport individuals (for certain assignments)
- Perform all other duties as assigned
