Direct Support Professional - DSP 1

The Direct Support Professional - DSP 1 role at YAI is a part-time position in the Bronx, Bronx, with a schedule of Saturday and Sunday, 7am - 3pm. The DSP 1 assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities, and upholds their personal rights, patience, and tolerance. Responsibilities include supporting individuals to meet personal goals, engaging in respectful communications, and facilitating activities that provide social capital and connections to the community.

Requirements

• Assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities
• Uphold individuals' personal rights, patience, and tolerance
• Support individuals to meet personal goals
• Engage in respectful communications and conversations through person-first language
• Facilitate activities that provide social capital and connections to the community
• Supervise, protect, and care for individuals at all times
• Manage crisis situations while adhering to applicable policies, procedures, and regulations
• Provide support in various settings and in accordance with individualized service and behavior support plans
• Implement person-centered, individualized plans following levels of supervision and safeguards
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized therapeutic environment
• Utilize safe and appropriate handling procedures when working with individuals and implement infection control protocols
