The Traffic Control Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing project-specific traffic control plans and maintenance of traffic strategies. The engineer will conduct field inspections, supervise traffic control crews, manage lane closures and detours, and maintain accurate documentation of all traffic control activities.
Requirements
- Develop, design, and implement project-specific Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans in compliance with GDOT, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local jurisdictional standards
- Prepare detour plans, lane closure layouts, and other traffic control designs to maintain safety and minimize disruption during construction
- Perform traffic analysis and simulations to evaluate impacts of proposed traffic pattern changes, access modifications, and work zone configurations
- Coordinate with GDOT, law enforcement, utility companies, subcontractors, and local jurisdictions to obtain necessary permits and approvals
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to assess traffic impacts and identify safe, efficient solutions for maintaining traffic flow
- Conduct site visits and field inspections to verify proper implementation of approved traffic control plans
- Supervise traffic control crews and subcontractors to ensure correct deployment of signage, barricades, devices, and flagging operations
- Lead and participate in safety audits and reviews to ensure traffic management measures protect workers and the traveling public
- Proactively address and resolve non-compliance issues related to traffic control implementation
- Schedule and manage lane closures, detours, and traffic shifts to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow throughout construction phases
- Maintain accurate records of traffic control activities, incident reports, equipment usage, and plan revisions
- Document and report all traffic control designs, updates, and field changes in accordance with project documentation requirements
- Manage and maintain inventory of traffic control devices and equipment
- Develop traffic control cost estimates and resource plans to support project budgets and timelines
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and contractors during implementation of traffic management plans
- Train team members and subcontractors on traffic safety procedures, standards, and compliance expectations
- Stay current with emerging traffic control technologies, including Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), and recommend improvements to enhance project safety and efficiency
