Columbus Technical College is seeking a full-time instructor for the Criminal Justice Program. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or higher in Criminal Justice or a related field and GA Peace Officer's Standard and Training (P.O.S.T) Certification. The instructor will teach at high schools 2-3 days a week, maintain expertise in the subject area, and participate in advisory committee meetings. The candidate will also contribute to writing accreditation and assessment reports, maintain program standards, and complete all internal and external training requirements.
Requirements
- Prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction
- Evaluate students' progress in attaining goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes
- Academically advise students
- Attend faculty development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences as needed
- Assist with recruitment, retention, job placement efforts, and sustaining a credible advisory board for the program
- Teach at the High school 2-3 days a week Spring/Fall
- Maintain expertise in subject area
- Obtain and maintain licenses and certifications
- Follow state standards in the development of program and course instructional outlines, goals and objectives
- Maintain program standards by participating in related advisory committee meetings and working directly with local employers
- Contribute to the writing of accreditation and assessment reports
- Request and maintain supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests
- Prepare and maintain all required documentation and administrative reports
- Complete all internal and external training requirements timely
- Maintain knowledge of current policies, laws, trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate policy notices, interpretations and attending training sessions, meetings and conferences
- Responsible for career service activities for the technical college. Markets the program services to the employment community
- Coordinates the provision of services such as job placement between students and employers
- Creates employer awareness by active involvement in community organizations
- Makes presentations about the college's programs as well as labor market conditions and trends
- Assists with the design and execution of special events, projects and activities as requested
- Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior
- Creates and maintains a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and strong team orientation
- Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures
- Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students
- Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses
- Prepares reports on the status of students in the program indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators, program goals and progress schedule
- Ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials
- Prepares appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve objectives and goals of students
- Prepares lesson plans, prepares lectures, writes course overviews and outlines
- Prepare tests, class projects and case studies; grades papers; averages grade, prepares grade reports, and coordinates make-up tests with learning lab
- Completes all internal and external training requirements timely
