The Dean of Students leads the school’s efforts to create a positive, structured, strong student school culture and supports the leadership’s vision to ensure that our school maintains focus on the mission of preparing our students for college and beyond.
Requirements
- Work closely with the leadership team to develop a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and creative school culture.
- Ensure that high behavioral expectations are consistently communicated and maintained throughout the school.
- Establish a strong achievement-centered culture and ensure the functionality of school-wide systems that support student achievement, safety, efficiency, and core values.
- Strengthen the high expectations we have for our scholars are maintained in each classroom and by all teachers.
- Observe classrooms to assist staff in maintaining our high level of expectations, consistent culture, and addressing behavior concerns
- Coach teachers as needed to establish a strong classroom community with clear expectations, routines, joy, and excellence.
- Collaborates with School Leadership when handling discipline/culture issues.
- Lead professional development focused on building a positive school community, classroom management, social-emotional development, family partnership, etc.
- Serve as the point person for dealing with behavior crisis intervention, acute behavior issues, and attendance/arrival.
- Work with all teachers to ensure that they constantly communicate with parents.
- Monitor behavioral pull-out and in-school suspensions.
- Coordinate and manage after-school programming and other enrichment activities, as needed.
- Lead breakfast, lunch/recess, dismissal, other transitional experiences, and whole-school operations.
- Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture.
- Aid teachers in improving their instructional practice, especially regarding discipline issues, relationships with students, and school culture.
- Assist teachers, students, and parents in effectively creating and implementing individual behavior plans (in conjunction with the Social Worker/Guidance Counselor).
- Support the Social Worker/Guidance Counselor in designing and executing parent workshops.
- Support the execution and supervision of school-wide procedures, arrival, recess, lunch, transitions, and dismissal.
- Maintains accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, suspensions, discipline referrals, and follow-up within the student information system.
- Coach, mentor, and support direct reports to be accountable for performance expectations and follow through with organizational protocols and procedures
